I’m interested in becoming a anesthesiologist but the problem is that I’m not this super genius that most doctors are. I have average SAT scores and a relatively low GPA. Also can someone run me through what exactly to go to college for to become this profession.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI’m sorry to put you down like this….but if you have a LOW gpa and average SAT’s, you won’t get into the top colleges to put you into a good med school to become a high paying anesthesiologist.
IF ANYTHING, you’ll have to go to a state college, major in like Biology, and REALLY excel.
Don’t listen to the guy that answered first….
Guess what…I dropped out of high school and got a ged…I enrolled in my state school and in the fall I will be entering my 2nd year of medical school..
Here is what you need to do….
Apply to as many schools as possible that have a medical school on campus. They love to put their own students into their medical school…
When you start college immediately speak to your premed advisor. Become her best friend….
he or she will tell you what courses to take in college
The general requirements are 1 year of biology 1 year of physics 1 year of organic chemistry 1 year of gen chemistry
and usually calculus
you want to do really well in these courses (nothing lower than a B) because they prepare you to take the medical college admissions test (mcat)
your junior year in college is when everything happens you will take the mcat and apply to as many schools as humanly possible
then you finish your degree and go on for four years of nothing but studying
Medical school is when everything gets difficult. I wake up at 7 and study until 11 then lunch then study until 4 then study into the night…..EVERYDAY it is literally like drinking out of a firehose
During medical school you take the med license exam (USMLE)
step 1 and 2
these are what will get you your anesthesiology residency
The reputation of the school does not matter
Just be prepared to give up the best time of your life to studying conditions
The best way to approach this is just one step at a time
and join the student doctor network…..It is an online message forum that got me through undergrad….good luck
